Fortune Favors The Bold
Bartholomew "Black Bart" Roberts was one of the most successful pirates of all time. He went through several flagships during his career, and he named them all Royal Fortune.
I’ve recently been reminded of the generosity and goodwill this community brings — and how unexpected opportunities sometime present themselves out of the blue.
They say fortune favors the bold. In action, I think that means when you are afforded a chance, you should take it. Or to boil it down to the very simplest of terms — say yes. (Here at Taboo HQ, we try to use yes as our default position, both personally and professionally.)
Of course, good fortune does not always fall into your lap. Sometimes, you need to reach out and ask for a little help, even if your request feels odd or seems impertinent. Because sometimes, the person you’re asking turns out to be just the right person, at just the right time. And magic can happen.
So, think about it for a minute — is there someone you can offer a helping hand? Do you have a skill that you’re willing to share or teach someone who could use it? Is there something you could use that you’re too afraid to ask for?
This doesn’t have to be epic, life-changing subject matter. But you are an expert in something, and if we all share a little of our knowledge, we’ll all come out better for it.
To your good fortune.
