Thomas Avery drew animals better than almost anyone alive and understood them considerably less well. His hornbills seem ready to leave the page, his gibbons genuinely move, and his preferred working distance was close enough to see the eye.

He was charged by a sun bear, treed by macaques, and bitten by six different animals before finally encountering a bearded pig in 1847. Avery had been sketching it for some time. It had been watching him do it.

The pig eventually charged and gored him. His companion’s account contains the sentence I told him twice, underlined, followed later by the drawing is very good.

The Shaman’s Lantern includes a life size skull replica, a 15ft. hemp cord with an on/off switch, and one LED flame bulb. You provide the standard Tiki brand torch base, available at any big box store.
