History is not always what it seems.

Every year, forgotten journals, overlooked artifacts, and nearly-impossible to believe accounts resurface from attics, museum basements, estate sales, and abandoned collections.

Most are dismissed. A handful deserve another look. Someone within the Society is making sure you notice.

The Society for Improbable Discoveries

Since 1878, the Society For Improbable Discoveries has quietly investigated unusual reports, recovered forgotten artifacts, and preserved accounts that never entered the historical record.

What is The Inconvenient Atlas?

The Inconvenient Atlas is the public-facing arm of the Society for Improbable Discoveries. Since 1878, the Society has recovered and authenticated evidence of unusual discoveries, unexplained phenomena, and artifacts considered too controversial or inconvenient for the official record. For most of its history, those holdings remained sealed.

Under the Society's Sunset Provision, they have begun to open. Documents are catalogued and released to the Archive for public examination. Recovered specimens and artifacts are beginning to pass into private custodianship, each numbered and entered in the Registry.

The Inconvenient Atlas is the public guide to those releases, publishing notices of newly opened records, forthcoming exhibitions, and specimens entering custody, before directing readers into the Society's permanent collections.
